Message : Well i've been smelling some burning lately, also been hearing some very high pitch whining during acceleration but everything else seemed fine -- even saturday night when i put my NGK #6 plugs back in she seemed to pull fine - just smelled like burning and i've been seeing increasingly more smoke during boost.

: Well today it happened >> beautiful sunny warm/cool day -- nice for boosting so i warm up the Z and pull out of my street then stay out of boost till the main highway and then hit it -- well i attempted to hit it -- but when i gunned it i got NO/ZERO/NADA boost -- it went from -20 to just 0 but didnt go above it -- also noticed lots of smoke. So i looked at my boost controller and that seemed fine -- the burning smell was getting more noticable so i just went normal again -- everything seemed normal so i tried to gun it again -- this time it went to about 5PSI and stayed there till about 4500 RPMs then it went up to about 10 PSI.

: I backed her off again and noticed several things (this was on a 40 mile drive to the next town to get my new alpine installed -- whole nother headache i'll save the drama on for now). But i noticed that i was now also hearing a metallic grinding or ratteling noise at lower rpms, still had the burning smell, and saw smoke each time i tried to give it any real boost. So i take it pretty easy all the way to the audio shop when i stop at a light and get a full dose of a SMOKE CLOUD enveloping my car from my exhuast. Ya pretty much a whitish/bluish (mainly white from what i could tell) smoke cloud just surrounding my car, so then the light turns and i go slowly noticing a nice amount of smoke flowing out of my exhuast all the way through low end rpms, plus i'm hearing the ratteling metalic noise from my engine area so i get to the audio shop and park it and let it idle -- it just smokes from the exhaust while ideling but idles at a very normal level.

: OH I SHOULD MENTION -- that the car is running perfectly normal as far as idle level and no hesitation or spuddering -- just nothing doing in boost!

: So they work on my car and i make some calls and figure that w/ this burning smell of what smells like oil, white/blue smoke, some kind of metalic grind/rattle, and lack of boost, along w/ 130k on my engine (guy told me he had turbos replaced at 60k but never showed me reciepts - so who knows), and considering my dyno #'s where so shitty just 750 miles ago i'm assuming my turbos are shot.

: Car basically did all the same things on the way back home and was actually smoking pretty badly at stop lights so i dropped it off at my shop and brought my maxima home.

: Also of note - oil pressure was normal (basically -- seemed a hair low but i'm talking almost perfectly normal level), temp was normal, engine bay was all normal and i didnt see anything disconnected.

: Anyway -- i guess i'm now forced to have to do my bigger Turbos, DP's, and 6 puck clutch now rather than later. Guess i'll be closer to 550-600RWHP sooner than i thought. Just a big pain in the ass to do things when you have to rather than when you want to.

: At any rate - i had to vent and i have no positive diagnosis yet - but i think we can all assume my turbos are now shot -- running on 18PSI the past 4 months or so i guess would do that w/ some NOS fun too!
